Foltyn studied in Prague. In 1924 he moved to Paris where he met Kupka and the members of the Cerclé et Carré movement, uniting artists whose principal interest was in geometric abstraction such as Hans Arp and Wasily Kandinsky. In 1934 he returned to Czechoslovakia
